Crisloid’s Classic Champion is your best bet for a lightweight, slender backgammon set. Whether your play style is on the go, or you simply prefer a set that takes up less space, our Classic Champion backgammon attache is a great design that does not sacrifice on detail. The Classic Champion set includes every last detail that one would expect from a well-designed backgammon board, and is simply a slightly smaller version of the Crisloid Tournament Set. The backgammon board is designed with a smooth cork surface and can be purchased in three different colors: brown, green, and blue. The heavy backgammon checker pieces were also designed with both elegance and ease of gameplay in mind. This backgammon set also includes a complete dice set and two dice cups. As with all Crisloid products, you can expect well-crafted artistry and a dependable product. In summary, the Classic Crisloid Champion Set may be our most compact attaché, but it is truly the whole package.

I LOVE this board.
The craftsmanship is top-notch. The case, hinges and latches fit true and square, and all work together nicely.
The cork lining is impeccably well-done. There are no visible glue spots and the seams are perfect.
The checkers are nice and chunky and have a nice feel and make a satisfying “clunk” when placed on the board.
And the size is just right for me. Sometimes the travel sizes are just a bit too small for me. I’m only an occasional player, so the table-top and tournament sizes were probably too large for me. This size is a good middle-ground: big enough to be comfortable, yet still very portable.
I did notice a few things I wished were different, and these are probably just my own preferences and not necessarily defects.
When using a finger to slide a checker across the board, the movement is a bit sticky. Maybe this is because they’re the flat type and not the ones with the large dimple in it. Or it could be the board just needs some more breaking-in.
Also, I would probably go with round-edged dice and not square: the rounded ones seem to shake more easily in the cup.
That said, to me none of these things diminish the overall quality of this board.
My only regret is that I didn’t get the red and black set. Or the green and white set. Or the orange crush set…

Readers may have noticed that this is exactly the board I use in my free internet backgammon video series at http://monkeysee.com/play/11192-backgammon
When I was looking for a board in 2006 I had been familiar with Crisloid sets since the 1970’s and knew of their durability. As I was then thinking of starting the Baltimore Backgammon Club, I went looking for a set that was durable, a real workhorse set that would last for years and this one certainly has done that. I still bring it regularly to our BBC club tournaments. I am partial to the color and have received email feedback from time to time on how beautiful the board was. Very satisfied.

I don’t think there is a better value in a tournament sized board. I love the Crisloid checkers: the size and weight are great I like the cork fine. The checkers slide well after a handful of games to break in the board. The attache is attractive and professional looking. I like the dice cups that match the checkers but it is important to note that they do not have trip lips as most would expect in tournament style cups. At a fifth the cost of many tournament board manufacturers, this is the board I can play on worry free. If I paid a $1000 for a board, I wouldn’t be able to leave it to go to the bathroom when playing at a restaurant or other venue.
